Youth contests feature public speaking, marketing

By Kylene Scott

Youth had their time to shine at the 2010 NCBA Cattle Industry Convention, Jan. 28. A number of kids competed in the NCBA Youth Marketing Contest, as well as Youth Public Speaking Contests, with topics ranging from the benefits of 4-H to the carbon footprint left by their cattle.

The contests were added in 2010 to give youth an opportunity to build public speaking skills. In the preparation process, youths learned about their subject through research, as well as developing and organizing their ideas, and prioritizing their message. Judges provide feedback to participants.

The team marketers created effective marketing campaigns on various topics. College students as well as high school students competed.
